The island of Malta is located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, just 80 km south of Sicily and 284 km from the shores of North Africa. Forming part of the European Union, the Schengen area, and the Euro zone, Malta has a population of around 516,000 and an area of 316 sqm. Despite being the smallest EU Member State, Malta has a strong economy and over the years it has earned a reputation as one of Europe's preferred locations for doing business.
 

Malta’s tax laws are compatible with those of the EU. The workforce is well educated and multilingual. Both Maltese and English are the official languages of the country and business is mainly conducted in English.
